2015 Billboard Awards

Happy Monday love!!

I hope you had an awesome weekend! To be honest, this post has turned up to be something totally different from when I started writing it. It started out as just a regular ol’ chit-chat then I watched the Billboard Music Awards last night and I thought it would be fun to talk about it here because I enjoy talking about the award shows I watch with my friends :) ****Warning: Spoilers!

I didn’t even know they would be on actually. I had seen stuff but it didn’t really stick in my mind until I saw it on my guide. I thought it might be fun to watch the performances and they were surely the best part.

Did anyone else watch? Andre watched with me and to be honest there were few impressive moments. It seems as if these awards shows these days only highlight a specific few artists (with awards in particular) for 60 minutes out of the 180 minute long program and the rest is all commercials. And they aren’t even exciting commercials. You can check out the full list of Billboard Music Award winners  and see what I’m talking about. It seemed like they only presented maybe 10 of those awards and they were the same few people winning it felt like. Super lame. When I saw the full list of winners, I couldn’t help but think “I wish I could have seen [insert a number of winning artists here] accept their award!”.

I will say, I enjoyed Chrissy Teigen as a host. Ludacris was ok but she was hilarious. Yea she messed up a few times but I liked it. She was raw and real (as she often is) so I thought it was cool.

Ed Sheeran had the best performance of the night for me. He was incredible. Everything he was doing had to be perfectly on time and he nailed it.

Tori Kelly gave him a run for his money though with just her voice. Good Lord that girl can sing.

John Legend&Megan Trainor surprised me. Well, John didn’t surprise me but she did. I knew she had a good voice but I just really don’t care for her music. It all sounds the same to me and it’s just scientific pop at that. If she would sing more stuff like they sang last night I would be more of a fan of her music. I will say, she seems like a super sweet girl. I teared up watching her be so genuinely surprised and give her dad a huge hug when they announced her win. Too cute!

Taylor Swift premiered her music video for Bad Blood at the beginning of the show and we were both super disappointed. I’ve spoken a little bit about how I’m not as mindlessly in love with all things Tay Tay anymore and I plan to talk about it a little more here in the near future but the video…it was cool but it seemed like the song was Kendrick Lamar featuring Taylor Swift. She only sang the chorus. I don’t have the album so I’ve never really heard the song, only seen the lyrics but I didn’t think he was the only one who really said anything the whole song. I’m not impressed by your shameless showcase of famous friends Taylor. You’re going to have to give me some actual content. Although I do love Mariska Hargitay.

Oh also, for anyone who might be wondering what my response to this Bad Blood song would be, you can find it here.

The craziest thing I noticed? I tweeted about it. The 70’s&80’s are back. At the same time. I guess everything comes back around and at the same time sometimes but this is in full force. 70’s fashion is here (which I guess I knew already and am NOT complaining about..I love it actually) and 80’s production is here. Nick Jonas, Nicki Minaj and Britney Spears are all examples of this. Which, I feel like I need someone to tell me that this is 80’s from someone who was actually there. I feel like neon lights and all the things they wear are more for production that actual authenticity. You know, like what people wear to theme parties instead of actually what people wore during that time period. But, I wasn’t there so I don’t know. #90’sbaby.

Really though I do love this 70’s fashion kick. Can we revisit Jane Fonda’s green jumpsuit for a second? She is such a goddess.

So you’ve just seen the billboard awards through my eyes. I’d love to hear what you thought if you watched as well!

I hope you all have a wonderful rest of the week and you come back to hang out with me here. I’m kinda excited/nervous because I’m sharing a lot of thoughts that are really dear to my heart over the next couple of weeks. By the end of this month I will be 25 and I’ve been thinking a lot on this next leg of the journey. I want this space to be all about sharing hearts and building relationships so I guess I have to do that first huh? Week 3 of my Whole 30 journey sparked it, now I’ll stick to it.

Love to you all and I’ll be sending you lots of good energy this week!
